Edo APC criticizes PDP’s sponsored protest in Agbede

Published

on

The Edo State Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as unfortunate the protest allegedly sponsored by the PDP in Agbede, a community in Etsako, Edo North, against its Deputy Governorship candidate, Hon. Mallam Gani Audu.
Mr. John Mayaki, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Media Campaign Council for the September 19 Edo Governorship election, condemned what he termed as a staged protest allegedly orchestrated by the PDP to misrepresent the people of Agbede who he claims are solidly behind Hon. Gani Audu.
He said: “The sponsored protest, attached to a frivolous claim that the people of Agbede are somewhat dissatisfied with Hon. Gani Audu’s emergence as the running mate to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu because he was elected to serve as a state legislator, is a violation of all democratic ethics and the disregard of INEC’s regulations prohibiting the staging of such events capable of fomenting trouble and sparking a spread of the COVID-19 disease.”
“The protest is nothing but a continuation of the desperate propaganda of the PDP. For days now, in responsible groups and safe engagement meetings, Hon. Gani Audu has been meeting with his people who remain proud of him and have declared their complete support.
“This has clearly rattled the embattled PDP and they are now responding with the only thing they know how to do: sponsoring confusion and sowing seeds of discord.”
“Their actions further reveal the already known fact that they are not interested in campaigning based on issues because Obaseki has no plan or manifesto.”
“All they want to do is incite Edo people against each other and their own.”
“Hon. Gani Audu is with his people and they are with him. Godwin Obaseki and his agents are targeting him with sponsored protests and all kinds of mischievous attacks because they know his emergence has dealt a fatal blow to their permutations.”
“The Governor is also still hurting from Hon. Gani Audu’s refusal to join his illegal mid-night Assembly condemned by both arms of the National Assembly. He was displeased that the Hon. Gani Audu and other majority members-elect refused to cave to his pressure to reduce the independent legislature to a mere extension of his office as Governor.”
“The illegal Assembly he wants Hon. Gani Audu to join is now in total darkness because they cannot afford electricity bills after the emperor Governor refused to release funds in the bizarre funding arrangement which leaves what ought to be an independent arm of government at his mercy.”
“The people of Edo North are happy that Hon. Gani Audu now has a chance to represent them in a sane and responsible government as the Deputy Governor.”

Edo 2020: Uromi declares support for Pastor Ize-Iyamu, says his campaign manifesto will move Edo forward

Published

on

The people of Uromi have assured Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Edo Governorship election, of their support and votes in the election slated for the 19th of September.
They gave this assurance on Monday following a succession of meetings with Pastor Ize-Iyamu at the Assemblies of God Church, Uromi, and the APC Secretariat, Esan North East LGA, where he explained his manifesto, the SIMPLE agenda, and policy plans to engender growth and development in Edo State.
Explaining the importance of politics to governance and why it is wrong to abandon it as the clichéd ‘dirty game’, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu said he is running for Governor to reposition Edo State through a transparent, accessible, and an all-inclusive government that will prioritize the growth of all, including the Esan people.
He criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki over what he described as a grand display of hypocrisy and insincere lip-service to the Esan people whom he had abandoned for years now that he needs their votes.
Rev. Felix Ilelbodiaye, the District Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church, Uromi Branch, commended Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and assured him of the people’s support at the polls.
A special prayer was held for Ize-Iyamu for his victory at the polls before he proceeded to the APC secretariat in Uromi where thousands of party members were at hand to receive him.
The endorsement of the Uromi people, given their population in Esan, is expected to further tilt the scale in favor of Ize-Iyamu who experts in the state already consider the favorite to win the governorship election.

Osinbajo clears air on 2023 presidential ambition

Published

on

Nigeria’s vice-president, Yemi Osinbajo, has no intention of contesting to be president in 2023, according to his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande.
Akande stated this while answering questions on an Instagram Live chat with the publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, on Monday.
Momodu asked Akande if the attacks his principal has faced recently, was part of a plan to disrupt any ambition the vice president has in 2023.
In response, Akande insisted that Osinbajo’s major focus was to support President Muhammadu Buhari until their tenure elapses.
“I’m his spokesperson and all I know he wants to do is to do this job that he has been given very well and he doesn’t have any other plans right now about any such thing. I can tell you that clearly.
“He has said to me several times, see Laolu, this is not a monarchy, we are going to be here for four or at best eight years, let’s just focus and do the work so that when we are gone, people will say we did this and that. So, he is entirely consumed with the job.
“I’m his spokesperson and we have not talked about what he is going to do in 2023. What’s the point?” Akande said.
