The Labour Party (LP) has urged the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris to go beyond words but ensure the prosecution of leaders and sponsors of some youths who on Wednesday issued ultimatum to Igbo people to vacate the northern parts of Nigeria within three months.
National Chairman of LP Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam told reporters yesterday in Abuja since the leaders of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other pro-Biafra sponsors are also calling for violence in the country those culpable among the duo should face the wrath of the law for treason and other criminality against the country.
“Since the IPOB and the so call northern youths did not witness the civil war, their sponsors who are mostly elites are confusing them to put the country into trouble. Unfortunately we have a government that is lackluster and a National Assembly playing politics with the stability of the country.
“We condemn the Arewa youths call for some people to leave the part of the country and the later also wanting to divide the country. We urged the Inspector General of Police to swing on into action by arresting and prosecuting those fanning the ember of discord in the country,” Abdulsalam said.
According to him while the so call Arewa youths did not think of many northerners living in the southern parts of the country apart from the internally displaced persons (IDPs) forced to relocate by the Boko Haram insurgency, it is also clear that the leaders and sponsors of the Biafra secessionists were not think of the millions of Igbos and other southerners living in the north.
“This divisiveness must stop as it will do no good to anyone,” he added.
