Kia Nigeria hosts the 2022 Korea-Nigeria Youth Camp, students tour the assembly plant.



Kia Nigeria, the leading Korean automotive brand in Nigeria played host to the teenagers from the Korean-Nigeria youth camp at its state-of-the-art multi-billion Naira assembly plant in Isolo, Lagos. The teenage Nigerian students from Hendon College in Abuja had an exclusive tour of the assembly plant and the opportunity to experience what sets Kia apart from other automotive manufacturers. With a capacity to assemble 27,000 vehicles per annum, the students revered the great learning opportunity the tour presented to them to observe the assembling process and see how the auto engineers roll out top-of-the-segment made in Nigeria Kia models that are built to the exact standard of the brand’s global quality.

The Korea-Nigeria Youth Camp is a program sponsored by the Korea-Africa Foundation in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria and geared towards giving young Nigerian students an experience of Korean cultural and entrepreneurship activities in Nigeria as well as fostering friendly relations between Korea and Nigeria. Visiting the Kia facility for a tour is one of the activities outlined for this year’s camp. The secondary school students were accompanied by 2 of their teachers and 4 staff of the Korean embassy to the assembly plant as part of the activities of the 2022 Korea-Nigeria Youth Camp.

In the course of the tour, the students were driven through the test track on the premises to experience the reliability, sturdy performance, and smooth driving experience of locally assembled Kia cars. In addition to watching employees work together on the assembly line to build vehicles, the students got a firsthand look at how the plant runs its end-to-end assembling process.

“Experiencing the process that surrounds the assembling of the cars was really interesting,” commented Oluwafunmilayo Daniel, one of the teenage students of Hendon College on a tour of the Kia plant. “I had never been in an automotive plant before so I enjoyed seeing how the assembly line works and watching all the car bodies and parts move overhead from one area to the next until you’ve ended up with a full-blown car. It was easy for me to identify all the different steps of production as they were happening on the assembly line.”

The youth camp program in tandem with Kia’s corporate socially responsive human development activities for the teeming youth aims to foster global leaders by training young vibrant Nigerians with simulative education tools. The camp will guide participants to apply these skillsets to build a better country. The students’ tour is one event choice that aligns with Kia Nigeria’s objective. Speaking at the tour, Olawale Jimoh, Marketing Manager, Kia Nigeria, expressed the company’s excitement to offer secondary school teenage students an inside look at the process of automotive engineering as well as enhance students’ classroom learning with opportunities to observe engineering functions in practice. “The Kia plant has become a force for economic development, creating well-paying jobs, and contributing to the diversification of the nation’s economy. As a brand, we’re proud that we can showcase this development to the young generations and help reinforce their hope in the belief that the country will be an industrial hub in no distant future.”

Keying into the Korea-Nigeria Youth Camp programs that are geared towards giving young Nigerian students an experience of Korean cultural and entrepreneurship activities in Nigeria as well as fostering friendly relations between Korea and Nigeria, Kia Nigeria as the leading Korean brand in the country has further strengthened the ties of the two countries through highly impactful and life-changing empowerment and capacity development programs in partnership with the countries geared towards youth development. One of such program is a tripartite partnership with Kogi State, and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to provide youths with state-of-the-art vocational and technical training required to keep them at the same pace as engineers from other parts of the world.

The Korea-Nigeria Youth Camp 2022 sponsored by the Korea-Africa Foundation in collaboration with KCCN kicked off on Tuesday 11th October 2022. For this year, 8 students of Hendon College Karu Abuja who were also awardees at the SAGE Nigeria project 2022 were selected to participate in the program.

Kia to launch stylish new Ceed crossover



From the very beginning of Ceed development 15 years ago, Kia has taken an open-minded approach to potential body styles. Many have been considered, and, in creating the new Ceed range, Kia’s European designers have been given the freedom to explore many different possibilities.

Now, with one additional idea standing out above all others, Kia is set to welcome a new arrival to the Ceed model family. Gregory Guillaume, Vice President of Design for Kia Motors Europe, explains: “There’s another style, another type of vehicle, that we feel very strongly deserves to be a new member of the Ceed family. It will the play the role that’s needed to make the Ceed range stronger and even more exciting, more appealing, to European consumers. The design will be nothing like you’ve seen in the Ceed family so far. This will be the next big surprise from Kia.”

With the arrival of the new Ceed, Ceed Sportswagon and ProCeed, Kia’s best-selling model family hasn’t stopped growing, and the newest member will shake things up again. The new Ceed crossover will be named and revealed later in 2019.

Dana Air Partners Project Pinkblue, U.S Embassy to train 44 Nigerian Doctors



Dana Air has deepened its Corporate Social Responsibility with the recent Medical oncology training of 44 Nigerian Doctors at the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja.

The Medical Oncology training held from 13th to 25th of August, is in collaboration with Project Pinkblue, a Nongovernmental organization, U.S Embassy in Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Health.

Speaking on the initiative, the Media and Communications Manager of Dana Air, Kingsley Ezenwa said, “Giving back to the society in which we operate is part of our secrets of success. We are committed to the health and wellbeing of Nigerians and this training is part of the Upgrade Oncology initiative focused on strengthening the capacities of oncology education, medical oncology curriculum, oncology infrastructures and cancer treatment in Nigeria.”

“The training was led by two U.S. based Fulbright Specialists-  Dr. Tracey O’Connor MD, a medical oncologist and associate professor at Rosswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, New York, USA and Dr. Mike Martin MD, medical oncologist and associate professor of Medicine at West Cancer Center, University of Tenesse, Memphis, TN, USA.’’

According to the Executive Director of Project PinkBlue, Mr Runcie Chidebe, The two U.S. based medical oncologists also trained 56 doctors and healthcare workers at Lagos University Teaching Hospital and the 44 oncologists were drawn from all the centres of excellence (CoE) hospitals, namely: University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, University of Port Teaching Hospital, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, University College Hospital, Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, National Hospital Abuja, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Usman Danfodio Teaching Hospital, Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Federal Medical Centre Gusau, Federal Medical Centre Bida,  Federal Medical Centre Abakaliki, and two private facilities namely Lakeshore Cancer Centre and  Asi Upko Diagnostic & Medical Centre.

Runcie while thanking Dana Air for its strong commitment to the fight against cancer in Nigeria since 2014 said “the fight against cancer cannot be won by using just one strategy, we must employ diversified strategies, and engage diversified stakeholders including the private sector. For instance, Dana Air has been supporting us since 2014, this is commendable! Let’s not be weary, let’s continue to support activities against cancer by all means possible”.

The Chief Medical Director of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Prof. Chris Bode who was present to supervise the training commended the initiative and was joined by other guests including  Prof. F.A. Durosinmi-Etti, professor of radiation oncology and the President of Cancer Education and Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CEAFON).

 Only recently, Dana Air bagged an award for its nationwide CSR initiatives as the Most Socially Responsible Airline by the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC).

The airline having flown over 2.7million passengers in the last 9 years of its operations is one of Nigeria’s leading airlines with daily flights from Lagos to Abuja, Port Harcourt, Uyo, and Owerri.

2018 Kia Rio hits Nigerian Market, Stuns all with Innovative Design



The unveiling of the all-new 2018 Kia Rio marked the exciting premiere of the new wave of sub-compact car in Nigeria. The fourth-generation Kia Rio, as Kia’s global best-seller, has been completely redesigned and re-engineered to exceed the expectations of all car enthusiasts across the globe. The new Rio has arrived in an even more compelling package with enhanced aesthetics and functionality. It has been redesigned for a more dramatic and distinctive look, boasting sleek, straight lines and sophisticated interior. The bestselling model also delivers a powerful driving experience with responsive and engaging handling.

Among the most anticipated vehicles for the 2018 model year, the all-new Kia Rio definitely stands out. Making its grand debut at the 2017 New York International Auto Show, the all-new Rio sedan is slightly bigger in size than its predecessor and is certainly sleeker with more balanced ride characteristics. Considering its enhanced technology and performance along with tremendous value, it is not surprising that the all-new Rio is already gaining widespread attention in the subcompact market.

New Look, New Attitude

The 2018 Kia Rio’s pleasing proportions mask its diminutive dimensions, avoiding the vaguely bubble-top look of many compact cars. The car has a higher ground clearance, wider and longer, the wheels have been pushed farther toward the corners, and the windshield has been made more upright. The overall effect makes the Rio the best-looking vehicle in its segment.

The inside has also been upgraded and feels very solidly built. The redesigned dash and gauge cluster looks upscale as well, so even though the Rio is a budget-priced car, it doesn’t feel cheap. The interior presents itself better than cars costing more. Additional sound insulation, a redesigned suspension, and revised steering help, too, making the new Rio feel buttoned-down and solid on the road. At speed on the freeway, the car has the sense of the weight of a larger vehicle, but when the road gets twisty, it reveals a planted sportiness. It’s a subcompact car where nothing feels flimsy or like a design afterthought. From the ground up, the 2018 Rio is a solid car that just happens to be very small.

The intelligently designed dashboard and center console, along with a windshield that has less rake, help the Rio feel surprisingly roomy on the inside. Rear-seat headroom is another surprise, as a 6-foot passenger sits upright comfortably. Rear legroom has grown 2 inches from the previous model. The front seats are comfortable, accommodating and wide enough to give most drivers plenty of breathing room. The seat feels a little lower and sportier than many subcompacts. Thanks to a lowered window line, outward visibility is excellent, while the steering wheel also has plenty of telescoping range, something taller drivers will greatly appreciate.In terms of ride and handling, the new model remains the sportiest offering in the segment.

The Rio is powered by a naturally aspirated 1.4-liter gasoline direct-injected four-cylinder engine pumping out Max. Power (ps/rpm) 100/6,000 and 123/6,300 Max. Torque (kg·m/rpm) with a six-speed automatic transmission, driving the front wheels. The Rio has adopted Kia’s current design language — overseen by ex-Audi designer Peter Schreyer — along with a brash look that is distinctive and upscale. A smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission effortlessly transfers the engine’s torque to the wheels, offers quick, smooth shifts and gear ratios matched to the engine’s torque curve. For utility, the Rio sedan offers 13.7 cubic feet of cargo room.

Style matters

With a slender tiger-nose grille, crispier lines and swept-back headlights for a more aggressive appearance, the impressive roster of styling details perfectly sum up how captivating the fourth generation Rio really is.

Slightly larger in size over the previous generation, the Rio’s new look is emphasized by the stretched thin and wide tiger nose grille. The vertical side vents and the sporty headlights at the front accentuate its stance, giving it a bolder look. The horizontal styling of the Rio further sends enchanting vibes with its roof seamlessly extending to the rear edge. To add an even sportier touch, the Rio offers an improved ergonomics.

Perfect fit for urban driving

Ideally suited to urban driving, the new Rio has become decidedly more sophisticated and athletic for driver enjoyment. The little Rio has always been compact enough for urban parking on crowded streets, and so is the redesigned Rio.

For a more engaging driving experience, the latest Rio is equipped with a  1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, improving the driving dynamics as well as fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions over the outgoing Rio. Able to deliver exceptional power and torque, the turbocharged Rio is ever-more capable of maneuvering, making a long commute or weekend road trip all the more pleasant.

Stable and safe

Rio’s solid structure makes use of advanced high-strength steel to increase durability and torsional stiffness for improved handling and ride quality as well as collision protection. And for the first time, the Rio offers optional Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), a system that detects obstacles and automatically applies the brakes to avoid accidents. Standard safety features include airbags, side-impact door beams, a four-wheel Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).
