Skål International celebrates International Women’s Day 2021
Since 1932, Skal International has been hosting all the travel and tourism industry branches and its executives as members of the global organization. Until 1976, the organization was mainly a male-dominated organization. During the Skal World Congress in Florence, Italy, in November 1976, Skal International Executive Committee proposed a change in the statutes to accept Women executives as members of the organization.
Since then, the organization has had six women World Presidents in the last twenty years. First, female World President was Mary Bennett from SI Galway, representing Ireland elected in 2002. Before her election, she served four years on the Skal International Executive Committee. Bennett was followed by five women leaders who were elected to serve as World President after four years of service on the SI Executive Committee. Litsa Papathanassi from SI Athens representing Greece was elected in 2006; Hulya Aslantas from SI Istanbul representing Turkey was elected in 2008; Karine Coulanges from Skal Paris representing France was elected in 2013; Susanna Saari from Skal Turku representing Finland was elected in 2017. The sixth Women World President, Lavonne Wittmann from SI Pretoria, representing South Africa, was elected in 2018.
In his statement, Skal International World President Bill Rheaume said, ‘March 8th is International Women’s Day, and Skal International takes the opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the tremendous impact the women in Skal have contributed to this organization.’
This year’s theme, ‘Choose to Challenge – from challenge comes change,’ is a testament to the work the female leaders within Skal have accomplished. We salute the past female International Presidents, the female leaders at every level of Skal, our CEO, and the dedicated ladies of the Secretariat.’ added Bill Rheaume.
Skal International’s CEO Daniela Otero is the first CEO of the organization appointed in 2016 by the Skal International Executive Committee. Otero leads the Skal Headquarters located in Malaga, Spain.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, Daniela Otero issued the following statement: ‘International Women’s Day, a date established by the United Nations’ decisions and celebrated in many countries worldwide. The issues of an equitable future, non-violence, a sustainable and peaceful future with equal rights and opportunities for all people will continue to be the topics of debates during these days. But the question is: how to achieve a greater presence of women at all decision-making tables? And this is a great challenge. For example, in the tourism industry, it is estimated that 54% of the people working in the sector are women, but only 5% occupy decision-making roles. So female leadership as an agent of change to achieve a more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable sector is still a pending issue. And we must change it together, men and women. At the end of the day, what we all aspire to is to create a fairer and more equal world…’
The next Skal International World President is expected to be the 7th women President in the organization as the current two Vice Presidents on the Skal International Executive Board are both women executives: Burcin Turkkan, Senior VP from Skal Atlanta representing the U.S.A., and Fiona Nicholl, VP from Skal Cairns representing Australia. Both will stand for election at the upcoming Skal International World Congress that will take place in Quebec City in October 2021.
Skal International continues to be the world’s largest global network of Tourism Professionals promoting Tourism, Business, and Friendship worldwide since 1932. For more information about Skal International and membership, please visit skal.org.

MBA Reassures Investors On Capital Payback Amidst Challenges
MBA Trading and Capital Investment Limited, a forex training and capital investment company, has reiterated its commitment to pay back investors capital funds after its inability to meet up with the expected investment revenue base due to market volatility among other challenges.
Recall that investors have been calling for payment of their capital fund across social media platforms and news platforms. An online news platform reported that investors alleged that major stakeholders in the company committed fraud.
In a statement signed by company’s CEO, Maxwell Odum titled “We will pay your money, MBA assures investors”, it assured investors that they will get the refund of their capital funds as the process has already commenced while some have already received their funds. It also maintained that it did not engage in another notorious Ponzi scheme and its major stakeholders never committed any fraud.
“Now, following the challenges we are currently grappling with in our business due to market volatility and other unfortunate developments, which means we are unable to meet up with the expected outcomes, we are strongly committed to ensuring that you do not at least lose your capital. We sold you an idea that we believed in and you have invested your funds into it because you trusted us. Where for one reason or the other things do not work out as expected in terms of your returns, the least you would expect is that your capital is safe.
“Our commitment is to pay back all capital funds. In fact, we have commenced that process by paying out our clients on the N360, 000 category (which has the largest volume of persons). To this end, we have slowly paid out hundreds of persons before we encountered an unforeseen circumstance. The Central Bank suspended any dealings in our accounts because, according to them, it became imperative to carry out some checks to ensure that we have been acting lawfully. All other payment gateways we normally use for easy payout of funds have also blacklisted us causing even more difficulty in the initial process,” the statement reads.
Commenting further on the issue with the Central Bank, it stated “On our part, we recognize the role of government’s intervention in moments of hazy optics. While we are not perfect, we do not subscribe to criminality and will not convert this intervention to exploitation of your patience to shy away from our responsibility. However, you will agree with us, in circumstances like this, we are expected to cooperate with the authorities until they lift this embargo and allow us to fulfill our commitments to you.
The statement also cleared the air on the smear campaigns against certain individuals who have sacrificially committed their time to stave off crisis from inception till now. “Especially our former Director, Mrs. Vodina West. Let’s make it abundantly clear that Ms West is not in possession of MBA’s corporate funds, neither is she deliberately or remotely a trigger-factor within the trajectory of our current development. As a matter of fact, even after taking on other opportunities completely different from what we do, she has still gone ahead to lend her hand of expertise to MBA as we fashion out the roadmap to resolving our current impasse.”
We assure you that this is what we will do the moment we are cleared to do so, which is the refund of capital funds to all our clients. We are hopeful there shall be fair and just appraisals of our operations and processes in a way that does not discourage other persons of perceived or suggestive high-handedness. As we do not know for how long we have to wait though our lawyers are working assiduously to vacate the order, it is our hope that the order restricting our account for 180 days would be vacated so we can resume paying you again.”
The management therefore asked for more patience and time from the investors to resolve the challenges they are currently facing.
“So, please, give us some time to sort things out; no matter how inaudible it appears, we are working zealously for your advantage keeping in mind that the current conditions are exhaustive and depressive. Confidently, by the time we are communicating next with you it would be to inform you that we have resumed putting some money in your accounts.” The statement reads.

International Women’s Day: I SUPPORT ANOTHER WOMAN…SEN. TINUBU
Today is International Women’s Day, a day globally noted for celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is also a day to call for actions that will accelerate gender parity.
This year’s event with the theme ‘Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 world’ reflects the novelty of the times we are in and is a pointer to the need to continue to further the cause of women in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic and our new normal. This formed the centrality of Sen. Oluremi Shade Tinubu in her goodwill speech to all women worldwide.
She noted: ‘I am delighted to celebrate with Nigerian women and our counterparts all over the world on the commemoration of International Women’s Day, 2021.’
‘The global UN theme for this year’s celebration, “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world” reflects the novelty of the times we are in, and is a pointer to the need continue to further the cause of women in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic and our new normal. The pandemic has brought to the fore, the urgent need for more women in leadership and management; and the importance of socio-economic empowerment of women across board.’
‘Unfortunately for us in Nigeria, in addition to the effects of COVID-19, we have other issues including but not limited to insurgency and banditry to contend with. The effect on our younger generations, particularly the girls, some of whom are still being held by their abductors is unimaginable. If we let this scourge continue to ravage our Nation, who would be left for us to bequeath anything at all?’
‘There is work to do towards ensuring that we have a viable Nation where young girls and women can wake up, secure, happy and proud to be Nigerian.’
She then charged women in Nigeria to provide veritable support for one another, ‘As a Nigerian woman, what are you doing in your business to support and empower women? What role are you playing to challenge gender biases and discrimination in your Community? Are you still conforming to gender stereotypes? What are you doing to ensure that girls and women around you have a voice and can use it effectively?’
‘Beyond the rhetoric, I challenge men and women alike to support women and their causes, condemn in absolute terms all forms of gender based violence and crimes against women, and create around you, an environment that ensures that women can flourish and thrive. As women, we must also continue to show strength and courage, challenging assumptions and raising the bar in our homes, businesses, our chosen careers, management and public office.’
‘I look forward to a world that is safe for our daughters, sisters and mothers; and assure you of my continued commitment to the advancement of rights and causes of womenfolk. I support another woman’
